Education should not depend on where a child happens to be born.
Shiksha Swaraj Foundation works to uplift education across India — through institutions, libraries, food support and community programmes for children and families who are too often left out.
What we exist to do
Our founding purpose is simple to state and hard to complete: to uplift education in India, and to undertake activities that advance learning across the country, without distinction of caste, class, religion, community or gender.
We work at the level where policy usually doesn't reach — a village school missing books, a family that cannot afford a meal alongside an education, a community without a reading room. The Trust exists to close that distance, one institution and one programme at a time.
We are early in this work. This site is where we will account for what we do, as we do it.
How we work
The Trust Deed sets out a small number of concrete objectives. These are the ones we are building toward first.
Establishing and maintaining schools
Setting up and running educational institutions at every level, including scholarships and financial assistance for students who need it.
Reading rooms and resource centres
Building libraries and resource centres that make reading and learning part of everyday life in a community, not an occasional privilege.
Food distribution and community kitchens
Supporting the nutritional needs of underprivileged children and families, so that hunger is never the reason a child stops learning.
Social, medical and legal development work
Administering programmes that support marginalised and vulnerable groups beyond the classroom, where education and welfare meet.
Research and publication
Supporting research centres and publishing work that adds to serious thinking about how children actually learn in the Indian context.
Where the work happens
Classrooms, reading corners and community spaces — the everyday settings this Trust is built around.
Who runs the Trust
The Trust is governed by a Board of Trustees named in the founding Trust Deed, registered 23 February 2024.
